TITLE: Paraprofessional – FOCUS ZONE

 

EMPLOYEE CLASSIFICATION:  Non-Exempt, Classified

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

OVERVIEW OF JOB DESCRIPTION:  To provide a safe and academic environment for at-risk students assigned to the focus zone in lieu of suspension or other disciplinary actions.  Support students demonstrating behavioral challenges. Work with minimal supervisory support at various school sites in the district

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Follows local, state and federal law and adheres to State Department of Education and local school board policy.
  2. Keeps records of all student contacts.
  3. Data collection and analysis / document outcomes of discrete trials and extensive behavior analysis data.
  4. Assists in parent involvement activities encouraging parental involvement of the at-risk students.
  5. Makes appropriate referrals for at risk students to available resources within the school district and/or from other available services.
  6. Assists in devising strategies based on the understanding of the student needs, interests, and abilities.
  7. Uses appropriate applied behavior teaching, communication, and reinforcement techniques.
  8. Supervises, observes, and assists the assigned student at all times, when supporting a student in a classroom setting.
  9. Effectively present information in a one-to-one or small group setting to students and other members of the educational team.
  10. Demonstrate and understanding, patience, warm, and receptive attitude toward students.
  11. Encourages community and parental involvement in school activities.
  12. Confers and consults with staff and administrators regarding students’ needs.
  13. Participates in all district and school site meetings and in-service activities as required.
  14. Participates in seminars, workshops and professional conferences for professional growth.
  15. Works closely with principals, nurses, teachers, and counselors to monitor students who have been assigned to the focus zone.
  16. Assists in the classroom by supplementing the delivery of the instructional process for at risk students.
  17. Performs other job relevant duties as assigned.

 

REPORTS TO:  Principal

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Work year to be established by the Board.  Salary is determined by individual training and experience level on approved salary schedule.

 

EVALUATION:  Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
